"It’s true that the show generated some revenue for the state, though it’s hard to tell if it was enough to justify spending those subsidies on this particular program, rather than attempting to attract another show to Alaska, or holding off on spending it at all. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, which broke the story of the tax subsidy, notes that the production reported spending $995,275 in Alaska, though not all of that money went to people who live in Alaska, and about $500,000 of that spending went to on-camera talent for the show. The benefits of the program were not exactly broad, or oriented towards creating a lot of new, long-term Alaska jobs."
"Pro-globalization filmmaker Carl Kesser was the least likely victim on November 30th, 2003. Yet he was accidentally shot in the head by a SWAT Team member while filming FTAA demonstrations in Miami. Kesser's lawsuit against the City of Miami police transcends the globalization debate and explores the balancing act between security and preserving our fundamental rights."

Snow Doesn't Melt Forever (2009)
My first day in Chicago, September 4, 1983. I set foot in this city, and just walking down the street, it was like roots, like the motherland. I knew I belonged here.
Well, maybe it's like Casy says. A fella ain't got a soul of his own, just a little piece of a big soul - the one big soul that belongs to ever'body. Then...then, it don't matter. I'll be all around in the dark. I'll be ever' where - wherever you can look. Wherever there's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad - I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry an' they know supper's ready. An' when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise, and livin' in the houses they build - I'll be there, too.
"“I woke up one morning and looked in the mirror,” she said. “And I realized that I was Danica McKellar. Then I looked over at my husband, and it just hit me. Have you seen my husband?” she asked. “That guy should not be married to Danica McKellar. It gives false hope to all the dweebs and toolbags in America. I was Winnie Cooper, bitch. I divorced him to restore balance to the Universe. I did it for the good of the planet.”"
As a director and his crew shoot a controversial film about Christopher Columbus in Cochabamaba, Bolivia, local people rise up against plans to privatize the water supply.

Some of the right's leading political and media lights have heaped praise upon Rand. The author of the Republicans' new budget plan to gut Medicare and Medicaid, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), has said Rand is the reason he entered politics. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) have both declared themselves devotees of her writing. Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has his law clerks watch the film adaptation of Rand's book The Fountainhead. She's also received accolades from right-wing pundits Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, John Stossel, and Andrew Napolitano.
During her lifetime, Rand advocated "the virtue of selfishness," declared altruism to be "evil," opposed Medicare and all forms of government support for the middle-class and the poor, and condemned Christianity for advocating love and compassion for the less fortunate. The majority of tickets are distributed to host university students and faculty through a lottery system with the remaining tickets going to friends and families of the campaigns and the media. Please contact the individual colleges hosting the debates for specific ticketing information.

Then last year, improvements to Medicare. So seniors would start
getting free preventive health care through Medicare and last year,
insurance companies for the first time were required to spend 80 percent to
85 percent of your money, the money that you pay them in premiums on your
health care instead of on marketing or CEO bonuses or whatever. If they
don`t spend 80 percent to 85 percent of what you pay them in premiums on
health care, they have to refund you. They have to pay you back.
That part of the health reform law took effect last year, which means
right now, this year, millions of people in businesses are starting to get
checks in the mail from their health insurance companies because the
insurance company did not in fact spend enough of their money on their
health care. So people are getting a refund. Insurance companies are
paying out over a billion dollars in refund checks this year because they
didn`t spend enough of what you paid them in premiums on actual health
care.

It contained a quick two-paragraph note: "My daughter and I just finished reading Life of Pi together. Both of us agreed we prefer the story with animals. It is a lovely book -- an elegant proof of God, and the power of storytelling. Thank you."
